Lady Lions Give Lady Panthers First Conference Loss, 77-73

DUNDALK, Md. – The CCBC Dundalk Lady Lions handed Baltimore City C.C. its first Maryland JUCO Conference loss this season on Saturday with a 77-73 victory at home in The Den.

Sophomore guard Koraan Sydnor (Baltimore, Md./Baltimore City College) put Dundalk ahead 74-73 on two free throws with 52 seconds remaining. Sydnor finished the game with 21 points (5-for-16), eight rebounds and four steals.

But it was freshman guard De'Asia Meyers (Baltimore, Md./Baltimore City College) who stole the show with a game-high 26 points on 6-for-8 shooting, despite missing the final 3:47 after fouling out.

Meyers also went 14-17 from the free throw line, had four assists, four steals and zero turnovers in 25 minutes on the court.

Freshman forward Mylia Clarke (Baltimore, Md./Maryland Academy of Tech. & Science) had 11 points (2-for-9), four steals and a team-high nine rebounds.

The Lady Lions (9-7, 5-2 Maryland JUCO) started the game on a 7-0 run and led by as many as 13 in the first half.

However, the Lady Panthers (14-5, 7-1 Maryland JUCO) pulled to within two, 36-34, by halftime.

In the second half, Baltimore City went on a 9-0 run to go up 53-45 and increased its lead to 11 points with just over 10:00 remaining.

That's when sophomore Crystal Crawford (Baltimore, Md./Mergenthaler) hit a three pointer that rejuvenated the Lady Lions.

Dundalk outscored Baltimore City 30-15 after falling behind by double digits.

Freshman Shala Shuler (Baltimore, Md./Maryland Academy of Tech. & Science) hit a 3-pointer with 3:12 left to tie the score at 70 apiece. The Lady Lions would never trail again.

The most amazing part of the Lady Lions comeback was that the Lady Panthers had the edge in virtually every statistical category.

Baltimore City had a higher field goal percentage (36.6% to 29.7%), 3-point percentage (28.6% to 19%), free throw percentage (69% to 66%) and out worked the Lady Lions 58-39 on rebounds.

But Dundalk made up for it with ball security, committing 16 fewer turnovers than Baltimore City. The Lady Lions also scored 40 points off turnovers as opposed to 11 for the Lady Panthers.

Dundalk also led 16-11 in second chance points.
