Lions defeat Fighting Owls 86-85

Your CCBC Dundalk Lions defeated the Harford Community College Fighting Owls 86-85 on Wednesday night. The Lions have now won five of the last six with Garrett College coming into the Den for the Lions last home game of the season.

 

The game was tied at 6-6 before the Lions broke away on a 17-3 run to take a 23-9 lead with 11 minutes to go in the first half. The Lions lead would expand to 19 points after a Jayse Barrett free throw to put the score at 39-20 with 3 minutes left in the first half. The Lions offense would stall and the Fighting Owls would get back in the game to close out the half on an 11-2 run but Lions remained on top by ten, 41-31.

The turning point in the second half when a foul was called after a Harford made basket to give an and one opportunity and two technical fouls were called on the Lions resulting in the Fighting Owls score 2 points off the layup, 4 free throws off of tech, and an addition free throw for the foul on the shot to score 7 points with no time coming off the clock just two minutes into the start of the second half. The Lions 43-33 lead was now 43-40 in an instant. The Lions would rebuild their lead to sixteen, 69-53 with 7 minutes left in regulation. Two minutes later it was 69-65 and the Lions were left in a daze. With under 2 minutes left Charles Neverdon knocked down a huge three to get the Lions out by seven, 78-71. Harford answers with a jump shot, gets a stop then bangs a three and it's a two point game 78-76. With under a minute left the Fighting Owls start intentionally fouling. Xavier Barrow came up clutch going 8/8 to close the game out for the Lions. Every Free throw mattered as the Fighting Owls banked in a half court heave as time expired but the Lions came out on top 86-85.
