Men’s Basketball: Lions Fall to Richard Bland in Home Opener

By Philip C. Jones

CCBC Dundalk men's basketball dropped its home opener on Sunday, Nov. 1, 99-94 to Richard Bland College.

Sophomore guard Anthony Bennett Jr. (Aberdeen) led the Lions with a game-high 26 points, and also chipped in five rebounds, two assists, two steals and one block.

It is Bennett Jr.'s second game with 25+ points, as he scored 28 on Oct. 31 against Rowan College at Burlington County.

Sophomore wing Miquante Greene (Patapsco) had a stellar performance scoring 24 points to go with six rebounds, three assists and five steals.

Freshman point guard Mike White (Northwestern) also made his presence felt, scoring 20 points and a team high six assists.

Not only was this game high-scoring, it was back and forth all night long.

The Lions (1-1) scored 50 in the first half and 44 in the second and at one point looked like they would cruise to victory.

But Richard Bland fought hard to come back and held an 82-78 lead with a little over five minutes remaining.

The Lions tied it with 3:43 left in regulation, but their efforts would not be enough, as the Statesmen would start to pull away in the final two minutes of play.

Next up for the Lions is a road game against Northern Virginia Community College today at 7 PM. Check the schedule tab tonight to following along with the live stats.
