Cecil recap

The Lions split the double header with Cecil that was rained out, winning game one on Sunday 8-7 in an extra innings comeback and losing game two on Tuesday 16-5 after two innings were played on Sunday.

The Lions were a homerun away from hitting the cycle in order as Ivan Gonzalez started off with a single, followed by Aldo Mercedes RBI Double. Sami Khan would bring home Mercedes with a triple, the inning would end after that but the Lions are up 2-0. Cecil was able to get a run back in the 3rd. GT Maggay hit a solo shot in the 5th to extend the Lions lead back to 2, 3-1. Cecil was able to tie the game 3-3 in the 5th and take a 6-3 lead in the 6th.

In the top of the 7th with two outs and a runner on second, Doyle McNew hits a homerun to right field, Lions down 6-5. Sam Richie keeps the Lions alive with a single. A drive deep into right field by Mike Newsome would give the Lions a 7-6 lead. Cecil was able to come back and score a run in the bottom of the seventh to send us into extras 7-7.

The 8th inning was desolate as both teams recorded a 3-up-3-down inning. With two outs in the 9th MJ Lux was able to get the Lions started with a single. Newsome would draw a walk to put Lux into scoring position, Shawn Sinclair would go in to pinch run Lux. Devin Hollingsworth hit the game winning RBI single to left field scoring Sinclair. Evan Giordani finished the side in order, retiring 7 straight batters to close the game and lock in a Lions W for game one 8-7.

Maggay's second home run of the day put the Lions up 1-0 in top of the first. Mother nature was nice enough to let us start the game before the torrential downpour ruined game two as the Lions were down 8-1 before the game was called and rescheduled to Tuesday.

Being in the hole to start Tuesday off set expectations low but giving up six runs to Cecil in the bottom of the third got rid of hope as they were down 14-1. The Lions were able to score 4 more runs off of 3 hits in the 16-5 loss.

The Lions will most likely be in the playoffs but fingers crossed until then.
