Utah, Get Me Two! Lions take both games against Garrett

Your CCBC Dundalk Lions win both games against Garrett College Lakers 4-3, 9-2. The Lions are now on a three game win streak and look to keep it going when they play CCBC Essex on Saturday, April 2nd.

Game one opened up in the bottom of the second when Mike Newsome hit a homerun after Sam Richie hit a leadoff single to give the Lions a 2-0 lead. 

After a three up, three down top of the third the Lions would strike in the bottom of the third. Ivan Gonzalez would reach on an error. GT Maggay would hit a single to right field and move Gonzalez to third. Doyle McNew would hit a sacrifice fly to center and score Gonzalez, Lions lead 3-0.

In the top of the fourth the Lakers were able to get a run back after starting the inning with two walks. In the bottom of the fourth Newsome led the inning off with another homerun to give the Lions a 4-1 lead. The Lakers would get more base runners in the top of the fifth but Coxon was able to get out of the bases loaded jam without allowing a run. 

Evan Giordani came into pitch for the Lions in the 6th. Back to back errors would give the Lakers two runs with no outs but Giordani would get out of his own base loaded situation, Lions lead 4-3. Ben Hall would come in to pitch from left field for the save opportunity in the top of the seventh. A lead off double spelled trouble for the Lions but Devin Hollingsworth was able to make a diving catch off of a bunt attempt and throw back to second base for the double play.  The Lakers wasted no time in the top of the first scoring from a single, stolen base and another single. In the bottom of the second back to back errors gave the Lions two base runners with two outs. A wild pitch would move MJ Lux and Kyle Hansel over and Julian Samonte would hit a single to bring them home, Lions take a 2-1 lead.

In the bottom of the third Richie and Newsome would hit back to back singles. With Richie on third, Newsome would steal second. A wild pitch would score Richie and move Newsome to third. Hollingsworth would bring Newsome home with a ground ball and the Lions lead was extended 4-1.

In the top of the 4th a leadoff walk would turn into a man on third with no outs after a stolen base throw ended up in center field. A single would bring the runner home but that was the only damage that was done, Lions hold the lead 4-2. In the bottom of the 4th the Lions would copy the Lakers but make it a little better. Samonte would draw a walk, steal second and make it to third on a passed ball. McNew would single to bring him home. McNew would get to second on a passed ball and score on a single from Richie, 6-2 Lions on top.

The top of the fifth was three up, three down off of two ground balls and a strikeout. In the bottom half Lux drew a walk and Hansel reached on an error. Samonte's single brought home Lux. Ivan Gonzalez would hit a ground ball and load the bases. McNew drew a walk and brought home Hansel. Richie hit a sacrifice fly to bring home Samonte, Lions lead 9-2.

The top of the sixth was three up, three down again. Hall went out again in the top of the seventh, reaching nine batters in a row retired before surrendering a walk but to no avail the next two batters hit ground balls and the game was over Lions win 9-2 and take two games off of Garrett.
