CCBC Athletics Hall of Fame Spotlight: Donald Weller

1972-1987 

A 1965 graduate of Mount Penn High School (Reading, Pa.), Donald E. Weller was the first athletic director and founded the intercollegiate athletic program at the CCBC Dundalk campus.

During his 16-year tenure at CCBC Dundalk (1972-1987), he started and developed six intercollegiate sports. His CCBC responsibilities also included serving as chairman of the Health Department at CCBC during that same time period.

Weller served as the first soccer, basketball, and baseball coaches for the Lions.

In 1987, he was named NJCAA Region XX Soccer Coach of the Year.

In addition to overseeing the development of the top-notch athletic facilities at CCBC Dundalk, he oversaw the implementation of innovative health and wellness programming such as Physical Fitness Technology.

Weller earned his Bachelor of Science degree (1969) and Master of Science degree (1972) from West Chester University (West Chester, Pa.)

He earned his Doctorate of Philosophy from the University of Maryland (1982) and was a two-time (1967-1968) NCAA Division II Men's Soccer All-American as a midfielder.

After leaving CCBC in 1987, Weller went to work as a nation-wide senior administrative director for Bally's Total Fitness, based out of Chicago, Ill.

In 1995, he founded Wellness Works, an adult fitness and health club in Solon, Ohio, which would be rated the the No. 1 health club in Cleveland, Ohio.

He retired in 2009.
