A graduate of Loyola Blakefield High School (Towson, Md.), Dennis P. Walsh was a flame-throwing lefthanded pitcher for the CCBC Dundalk Lions and inaugural member of the CCBC Athletics Hall of Fame.

He notched 17 community college wins over two seasons and was a 1989 All-NJCAA Region XX and All-Maryland JUCO Conference first team selection.

During that 1989 season, Walsh recorded 48 strikeouts in just 54 innings pitched.

After graduating from CCBC with an Associate of Arts degree in 1989, he was awarded an athletic scholarship to the University of Alabama (Tuscaloosa, Ala.).

He recorded another 17 wins at the NCAA level, highlighted by an 11-4 record and another 94 strikeouts in just 104 innings pitched during the 1991 season.

Walsh was named to the 1991 All-Southeastern Conference honorable mention team.

Drafted into professional baseball in 1991, he spent three years in the Detroit Tigers organization.
