Lions Slay The Dragons

Your CCBC Dundalk Lions advance to 14-5 (6-1) after defeating the number one team in MD JUCO the Howard Community College Dragons 83-82 after a buzzer beater.

Malik McCormick led the team with 20 points and 4 assists off the bench. Christian Wright was right behind him with 18 points. Tyshaun Walker led the team with 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Allayassa Bray also had 7 rebounds. Ibraheem Bundu had a nice game going 4-4 from the field with one three and 2-2 from the line for 11 points while having 5 offensive rebounds and 2 blocks.

The game starts out with the Lions up 4-0 but Howard answered right back with a 11-0 run of their own. This 7 point lead was the largest of the game for the Dragons. The Dragons held on to the lead until the game was tied at 25 with a little under 7 minutes left. The Lions were up 1, 31-30 before going on a 9-0 run to make the score 40-30. But the Dragons  again answered with a 5-1 run of their own to make it 41-35 Lions up, at the half.

In the second half the Lions managed to build onto their lead the be up 11 with a score of 59-48. With what now seems to be a trend, the Lions struggle to hold their lead after hitting their largest margin because right after going up 11, they give up a 15-2 run to make the score 64-61. The Bleeding was stopped Ibraheem Bundu making two free throws. 

Now the baskets were going back and forth but Dundalk could not even tie the game let alone lead. Neither team could break away from the other. With under a minute left the Lions are down 5 with the score at 82-77. Christian Wright drives for the Layup and is fouled but the shoot is good and he converts the and-1 to make it 82-80. The Lions try to get the steal but foul and put the Dragons on the line for a 1 and 1. He misses the first, Tyshawn Walker gets the rebound and the Lions call a timeout. The Lions miss the layup and the Dragons get the rebound and is intentionally fouled. Dragons at the line for a 1 and 1 again and he misses the first and the Lions, pressed for time, race down the court. Christian Wright ends up driving and getting fouled. The First shot goes in Lions down 1, 82-81. The second shot goes off the rim… But no one covers the shooter and Christian Wright wrestles for a rebound and the Lions end up with a jump ball with 4 second left. The Lions call their final timeout. Malik McCormick inbounds the ball to Christian Wright from under the basket to midcourt and try to set screen for McCormick but he was covered so Wright drives and misses. But Dana Strothers gets a hand on it to tip it in and as it's in the air, the buzzer rings and the ball bounces off of the iron and falls in.
