Lions bested by Nighthawks in 89-56 rout

DUNDALK, MD - It was a bone-chilling night outside and a heartbreaking night inside the gym. There were 37 fouls in the game and the Lions could not get anything going in the 89-56 blowout against Northern Virginia Community College.

The only lead Dundalk (9-13) had over NOVA (7-9) was when they were up 9-8 with 15 minutes left in the first half, but it was all downhill from there. Foul after foul everything seemed to go into NOVA's favor and it appeared to get into the heads of the Dundalk players. Dundalk was only down 37-29 at halftime and the game appeared to still be in reach.

After the break the fouls kept coming. The game could never get going because it seemed like every possession was a foul. It really slowed down the game and swung the momentum into NOVA's favor. NOVA went on a 22-3 run giving them a 27 point lead. NOVA's Robert Tartt had a game high, 33.

In the second half Breon Williams (Parkville) and KeiJuan Major (Indian River) came off the court injured on separate occasions. Hopefully everything is fine now and there were no serious injuries. Here's hoping will be ready to go for Saturday when the Lions travel to Howard Community College on Saturday February 2 for a 3 p.m. tipoff.
