Lions best Seahawks 85-83

by Kyle Sharp

DUNDALK, MD - The CCBC Dundalk Lions went head-to-head with the Seahawks of Cecil College, in hopes of gaining four wins in a row.

You could sense a bit of tension between the two teams from the start of the game. Both teams were able to make big defensive plays and match each other, basket for basket. The first ten minutes of action saw more defensive rebounds than points scored. The Seahawks closed out the first half with a 31-27 lead over the Lions.

The second half was back and forth like the first half, however, both team's offenses stepped up and made more plays. Along with increased offensive actions, both teams found themselves in foul trouble early in the second half.

The atmosphere in the CCBC Dundalk gym was intense and the crowd became more involved later in the second half. The Seahawks were able to maintain a lead for the last few minutes of the second half until the Lions clawed their way back, with Richard Hibbert (Patterson) hitting the go-ahead basket with six seconds left, putting the Lions up 76-73. The Seahawks were able to snag a buzzer-beater and tie the game at 76 and the end of regulation, forcing the Lions into overtime for the second game in a row.

The Seahawks maintained possession and the lead for most of OT until the Lions found momentum and fed off the crowd's energy. Down by one point with 12 seconds remaining, the Lions possessed the ball and were able to find Christion Wright (Woodlawn) open and nailing a 3-pointer with 1.2 seconds remaining. The Lions held on and won their 4th game in a row 85-83.

Richard Hibbert led the Lions in scoring with 27 points. Keijuan Major (Indian River) followed Hibbert with 17 points.
