Lions Split First Conference DH

Lions Baseball kicked off conference play this weekend against Anne Arundel Community College, splitting their double header losing Game One 11-6 but winning Game Two 7-1.

The Lions put themselves in a hole down 5-0 after two innings. In the top of the third, back to back singles from Julian Samonte and Ivan Gonzalez and a walk drawn from Mike Newsome loaded the bases for GT Maggay. Maggay would hit into a fielder's choice to get Newsome out at 2nd but Samonte would score 5-1. Doyle McNew would hit a 2 out single to bring home Gonzalez, Lions down 5-2.

The Lions would speed through the bottom of the third with a 3 up 3 down inning. Ben Hall led the top of the fourth with a single and would score from an error by the catcher. The Riverhawks would get one back in the bottom of the fourth after a single and an error followed by a single and an error, Lions down 6-3.

In the top of the 5th the Lions would get two singles from Gonzalez and Maggay who were brought home on a two out homerun from Sam Ritchie, his first of the season, Lions tie the game 6-6. The Lions had a rough bottom of the 5th giving up 5 runs and the lead giving us our final score as the offenses simmered down for the 6th and 7th inning.

Game 2 started out with Samonte drawing a walk, a single from Gonzalez and Maggay getting hit by a pitch to give the Lions bases loaded with no outs. The Lions came away with one run from a sacrifice fly from Ritchie. AACC would get their only run of the game in the bottom of the first on a two out error with a man on third to tie us up at 1-1.

The Lions would get two more runs in the third from a McNew Homerun that would bring home Gonzalez who led off with a double. In the top of the fourth Samonte would hit a sac fly to bring home Tristan Pomeroy who got on with a leadoff walk. Maggay would then bring home Sami Khan on a single to center, Lions lead 5-1. In the 6th Khan would get on with a double and Samonte would hit another sac fly 6-1. In the top of the 7th guess what? A lead off double, this time from McNew.
