Lions drop two to Del Tech

Dundalk, Md. - After the first real week of baseball the Lions have fallen to 2-6 (0-2 in conference). The Lions had a double header against Delaware Technical Community College to close out the weekend. The first game was a 9-2 loss for the Lions and the second was 7-5 loss in nine-innings.

Game one the offense was not there for the Lions. Ben Hudson pitched all seven-innings only giving up three hits and six walks while racking up ten strikeouts.

The first run came from a Charles Lebron one out walk, followed by a Bryant Gutierrez single with a throwing error to put the runners on second and third. A wild pitch advanced the runners giving the Lions their first run and only lead for the whole game at the bottom of the first.

Del Tech answered with five runs in the second and one in the third making the score 6-1 Del Tech. In the bottom of the third with one out Bryant Gutierrez drew a walk. Travis Buckmon singled. A wild pitch advanced the runners to second and third. A balk scored Gutierrez.

Game two was a lot more competitive. The top of the second Del Tech had a homerun with no one on. Followed by a single and double to score another run. The top of the third a single, error and another single scored a third row making it 3-0. In the bottom of the third Jake Brack had a lead off double and Bryant Gutierrez had a single to bring him home making it 3-1.

In the fourth Del Tech had a single, stole second, another single and a sac fly to score their fourth run increasing their lead to 4-1. During the fourth Creed Mourey took a ball straight off the bat into the side of the knee. Wishing the best for him

In the bottom of the fifth with one out Charles Lebron singled. Bryant Gutierrez was hit by a pitch. Mateo Gil laid down a bunt to advance the runners. JP Melby hit a double to bring both runners home making it 4-3. Aaron Rodriguez hit a double leaving with Melby advancing to third. The pitcher then throws a wild pitch that bounces straight up in the air and lands in the batter box to the right of home plate. The catcher was confused looking behind him for the ball, he then spots the ball and makes a diving effort from behind home plate to flick the ball to the pitcher trying to get Melby out coming from third but he threw the ball away. Rodriguez scores on the play as well making the score 5-4 Dundalk.

In the top of the sixth Del Tech tied the game with two singles a bunt and a groundout.

In the top of the ninth with two outs Del Tech closed the game out with a hit by pitch, single and a double to score them both.

The next game is Tuesday, March 19th against CCBC Essex.
