CCBC Dundalk Names Jon Karsos Head Baseball Coach

DUNDALK, MD – Community College of Baltimore County Dundalk Athletics today announced it has named Jon Karsos as the Head Coach of the CCBC Dundalk Lions' Baseball. This is a return to CCBC Dundalk for Karsos, as he is a previous student-athlete and coach. He replaces Kyle Campbell who resigned at the conclusion of the 2018 season after three years as head coach.

As a senior at Towson High School, Karsos earned All-Region and All-Baltimore County honors while helping the Generals to the 2000 2A Maryland State Championship.

After graduation, he pitched for two seasons at CCBC Dundalk for Coach Scott Roane, earning Maryland JUCO All-Star honors in 2004, going 4-3 with a 2.84 ERA. Academics took him to West Virginia State University, where majored in Therapeutic Recreation. He played baseball for two seasons for Coach Cal Bailey, and, in 2005, he helped the Yellow Jackets to the NCAA Division II College World Series and a No. 1 ranking in the national polls.

Karsos began his coaching career as junior varsity assistant coach at Loyola Blakefield High School, taking the Dons to the MIAA JV Championship in 2008. The following year, as varsity assistant coach, the Dons came within one game of going to the MIAA Varsity Championship. He continued on to CCBC Dundalk, spending two years as assistant coach and then two years as head coach, leading the Lions to back-to-back NJCAA Region XX Division II runner-up finishes.

Karsos' most recent position has been a three-year tenure as pitching coach for Towson University. In his second year there, he helped the pitching staff lower the team's ERA by 1.80. The 5.19 team ERA was ranked fourth in the CAA.

Karsos has also directed and coordinated several baseball camps and taught basic baseball, basketball, football, soccer, and volleyball skills in several youth sports programs.

"[I am] beyond excited and thankful to accept the Head Baseball coaching position and to be back at CCBC Dundalk," Karsos said. "I look forward to making connections with current and incoming Lions' baseball student athletes over the next few weeks."
