Despite Late Rally, Lions Fall to Riverhawks 8-6

DUNDALK, MD - The CCBC Dundalk Lions fell to the Anne Arundel Community College Riverhawks 8-6 on Thursday April 26. Overpowering the Lions with a six-run third inning, Brady Ward (2-4, 2B, 2RBIs) delivered a two-run double to start the scoring for the Riverhawks followed by a grand slam delivered by Dustin Gosnell (2-4, HR, 5RBIs). Riverhawks LHP Ryan Richardson was in command for most of the game, pitching six innings, allowing only 3 earned runs, and striking out 10 batters to earn the win.

The Lions were down 8-2 until Bryant Gutierrez (Abraham Lincoln | Queens, N.Y., 1-4, HR, 3RBIs) delivered a three-run home run in the sixth inning to cut the lead to three. The Lions were able to score another run in the nonth inning in an attempt to get a late rally going, but it wasn't enough. Despite giving up five earned runs, Antonio Fernandez (John Bowne | Queens, N.Y.) struck out seven batters in six innings and got out of several tough jams in the first and fifth innings. Creed Mourey came in relief for the final 3 innings and gave up 0 runs and struck out six batters. 

The Lions drop to 12-23 overall and 6-16 Maryland JUCO Conference. 

Up next: The Lions play a doubleheader at home on Saturday April 28 against the Luzerne County Community College Trailblazers (Nanticoke, Pa.). First pitch 1 p.m. 

Next week: Lions vs. Orange County College scheduled for Sunday April 29 has been cancelled. On May 1, the Lions are at CCBC Essex. The Lions host Cecil on May 3, and wrap up the regular season on May 5 with a home doubleheader against Montgomery
