A 1990 graduate of Southwestern High School (Baltimore, Md.), Sylvester Duke Banks was an electrifying power forward and center for the CCBC Dundalk Lions.

For the 1993-1994 season, he averaged 29.8 points per game and 15.8 rebounds per game to go along with 1.9 blocks (standing just 6-foot-4), 2.1 steals and 4.1 assists per game.

Those accomplishments would earn him a spot on the 1993-1994 NJCAA Division II Men's Basketball All-American second team.

That same season, Banks would also be named to the All-NJCAA Region XX and All-Maryland JUCO Conference first teams.

He would go on to play forward at Bowie State University (Bowie, Md. - 2000-2001) and average 10.7 points and 7.6 rebounds per game, helping to lead the team to a 19-9 season, 12 more wins than the prior year.

He is the boys' basketball coach (2010 – present) and girls' volleyball coach (2008 – present) at Frederick Douglass High School (Baltimore, Md.).

Under the leadership of Banks, the volleyball team captured the Baltimore City District IX and Division II championships (2014) for the first time in the 132-year history of the high school.

Previously, he was the girls' head basketball coach at Southwestern High School (2002-2007) and Frederick Douglass High School (2007-2010).
